When it comes to becoming, a courier in South Africa there is not a lot of secondary education that is involved. In most cases depending on the type of cargo you will be transporting you will not need very much of anything save for a specialized license to drive certain vehicles and a good driving record in order to be able to attain a position. What Training Is Necessary?
It is all dependent on what it is you will be transporting in regards to what type of training you will need and receive based on experience and knowledge. You will need to look at the cargo you are looking at moving as well as the type of vehicle that will be necessary to move it from one point to the other.
If you are handling certain materials such as those for medical facilities or for medical samples, you will need to make sure you have the proper clearance and certification to be able to handle and transport these specific items. Make sure to know what you will be transporting before you go and get started on doing so. Look at the requirements and make sure you have them all fulfilled. Depending on the type of vehicle you will be using, you may need to look at the type of license you have. You may need to get special endorsements for your driving privileges to handle the larger commercial vehicles you may need to drive as a courier. What skills will you need?
You will need to make sure you have adequate people and customer service skills to meet the needs of who you encounter. There are many different people you will meet along your routes and as you are travelling. Make sure you know how to treat all of them and that you get the best results to meet all of their needs.
You will in all likelihood need to complete on the job training so to become familiar with routes and to learn how to best deal with the customers and to meet their needs. You will be shadowing someone to teach you how to do it properly and to get to know what the expectations and parameters are for the position you are looking to fill.
