6 Skills Every Part Time Worker Should Have

6 Skills Every Part Time Worker Should HaveIf you want to become a part time worker it can help enormously to have specific skills. To this end we’ve created a list of the most important skills to have under your belt. These will help you find and keep the best part time position you can find.

1.The ability to be a fast learner.

Many employers want part time workers who can hit the ground running. Being able to show you are a quick learner and can get to grips with the job you are applying for will help you to find a suitable part time job more quickly.

2.The ability to make the most of your time.

As a part time worker you’ll probably fall into one of two work patterns. You’ll either work a couple of full days per week or you’ll work a number of shorter shifts throughout the week, perhaps for three, four or five days in succession. In order to do well in your job you must make sure you’re able to make the most of your time. This is particularly true if you only work several hours a day.

3.The ability to be well organised in your work.

This really follows on from the point given above. Good organisation is a skill that won’t go unnoticed by your employers. You will also get more done during the hours you work if you find ways to become better organised.

4.The ability to organise your time off.

As a part time worker you’ll have more time off than you would have if you were working the full 45 hour week worked by full time workers in South Africa. You may have elected to work part time for a reason, i.e. because you have other commitments. So it works well to ensure you can organise all your time efficiently, not just the time you are working.

5.The ability to become involved in your workplace.

Don’t assume you can’t become a valuable part of your workplace just because you work fewer hours. While many part time workers feel separated from the main workplace because they are not there as often, it doesn’t have to be like this. You can find ways to get involved when you are there, so you feel like a proper part of the business you are working in.

6.The ability to manage your money effectively.

Is this really a skill? Well yes it is: you’ll be earning less as a part time worker so it makes it even more important to manage your finances effectively. When you are considering taking a part time job, make sure the money you will earn will cover the requirements you have. This holds true regardless of whether you have a partner or not.

So there you have it – six skills that will help enormously when you go into part time work. The more you practise honing these skills, the easier your job will be.

I work full-time now but I did work part time in the past. You have to be really good with time management when working like that because you don’t want to take your work home with you. Especially if you are in school or something.

Part-time is the best. Because if you want to spend more time with your friends like I do, you only need to go into work. Would be nice to make more money tho… :/

Yea I agree, I couldn’t work full-time even if I wanted to. Its hard to work a that many hours with a newborn, but there seems to be a lot of jobs these days that are willing to work with you if you have a busy schedule.
